Push the shake hard enough into the gap and finally seal it with caulking compound.

How to Repair a Flat Roof?

It’s easy to spot leaks on a flat roof. Normally leaks occur at low points or at spots where some damage has occurred. If water is still collected over the leaking area then mop it and leave it to dry off completely. Look out for any cracks or blisters where the top has been damaged. To mend the blisters, slice it with sharp knife from middle and lift the edges. Squeeze out the water, if required, and soak all the water from the roofing layers. Allow the layers to dry out. Spread a thick layer of roof cement on the loose edges of the cut and press down the blister firmly. Finally close the blister with 6d roofing nails and spread another layer of roof cement to cover the blister.

boulderlayersI know, you probably read the title and thought, “Hello? I live in Boulder, you don’t need to tell me how to pack for my place of residence.” Maybe you didn’t say it quite as formally as that, but you get my point.

However, with as beautiful as Boulder is, you’re going to have friends and family dying to come and visit you. Since there are so many amazing things to do in Boulder, you may just want to send them this link and tell them to follow it to a T.

Enough layers for every weather contingency: We’ve all learned it the hard way at one point or another: no matter what season it is, pack for every season. Sometimes it’s warm enough to be summer during the winter. Sometimes it snows May. Sometimes you’ll get all four seasons in one day. Be prepared.

Four different pairs of running shoes: You’ve got to have the right shoe for the right terrain! Trail runners for Sanitas; road runners for a daily run arounddowntown; Vibrams for barefoot running with shoes on and fashion running shoes for a night on the town. And remember — some folks wear those Vibrams…everywhere.

Carabineers: They aren’t just for rock climbing! In Boulder, they are your link to all your earthly possessions. You need one for your keys in your pocket and one to clip your water bottle to your backpack. Your guests will need one for your spare keys. Hell, bring a few extra for your backpack in case you need to clip a few more things to it. You never know.

Antacids or heartburn medicine: No, the food here won’t make you sick. But the sheer amount of delicious eateries located downtown might have you packing in a little too much at a time. You might think you can never have enough farm-to-table meals in one day, but if you try all of the options available in Downtown Boulder, you might find yourself rethinking that notion.

Good pen for signing petitions: When you visit Boulder, you won’t yet be accustomed to the barrage of petitions that you’re asked to sign on any given day and you won’t have developed a system for avoiding these folks, so you’ll likely get suckered into a couple of petitions, regardless of the fact that you aren’t a registered voter in Boulder county (you can definitely use that excuse though).

A healthy liver: Not that you can exactly through this into a suitcase, but just make sure that your liver is in good shape because, with access to several world famous microbreweries and more bars than you can shake an out of state driver’s license at, you can bet you’ll be testing the limits of your liver’s capabilities.

Rolling papers: Yup, weed is legal here now (maybe that’s the reason you’re taking the trip out here in the first place). Get ready to buy it and smoke it penalty free. And we encourage this — especially since the excise tax on your purchases all go to supporting our public schools. Higher education, indeed.

If you can fit all of those items into a sustainable, vegan carry on bag, you’ll be ready to head to Boulder ready for just about anything that comes your way.

Even if you forget to pack most of these items, you’re still going to have a great time in a city with some of the best views in the country, some of the most delicious food in the state and some of the most diverse activities possible at any point of the year.

Shellfish

While this can be a pretty scary allergy to have, luckily, it’s fairly easy to avoid shellfish as long as you … don’t order shellfish. There are some broth-based foods made with a seafood-based broth (especially in Italian and Mediterranean restaurants), so keep in mind that a lack of actual shellfish in the dish might not mean a dish is shellfish free.

As one of the foodiest towns in the country, Boulder definitely boasts some spectacular farm-to-table and upscale restaurants. They also play host to some fabulous cuisine from all over Asia. Here are just a handful of those offerings — and definitely let us know if you have additions to the best Asian restaurants in Boulder.

Chinese

The old standby. Chinese Food. Anytime I feel under the weather, I swear by a good Hot and Sour soup to make the world right again. Tsing Tao, located in the Table Mesa shopping center, has vegan Hot and Sour soup to die for. I’ve been going to this place since I attended Fairview High School and it never gets old.  On the other side of town in NoBoChina Gourmet serves happy customers seven days a week. Just be warned, it’s a cash only establishment, so hit the ATM before you go.

Japanese

When I say Japanese, most people think of one thing: sushi. Boulderites love themselves some sushi, so there are no shortage of sushi places in Boulder proper. Some of the most popular places include Amu, which is also a sake bar that offers guests up to 48 different types of sake; Sushi Tora, which is about as fresh as you can get outside of Tokyo (it’s flown in fresh daily); and Sushi Zanmai, which doubles as a karaoke bar on Saturday nights.

Thai

Boulder certainly has no shortage of great Thai food places. You probably have your own place that you frequent or order from on a weekly basis. Here are a few of the places that have received top nods from diners in Boulder: Thai Avenueserves Thai right on College Avenue and many folks rave about their Drunken Noodles and Pad Thai. Thai Kitchen, a little off the beaten path at 28th and Valmont, has a reputation for Thai with a kick. If you’re searching for a place that will finally satisfy your need for spicy food, order your dishes spicy.

Vietnamese

While there’s a wide variety of menu items that constitute a Vietnamese menu, ask any hungov – er, sick college student which menu item is a necessity and they will answer in chorus: Pho. Luckily, one of our other staffers has got you covered when it comes to finding the best pho restaurant in Boulder, so my work here is done.

Indian

Though this category is often thought of separately from other Asian restaurants, it is a member of the Asian food family and I can’t pass up an opportunity to take about good Indian food. Curry N Kebab is located out near Thai Kitchen on 28thand Valmont and it is worth the trip (even though it’s not that far in reality).  Fans of this place rave about nearly every item on their menu, so you can’t really go wrong with any choice. Tandoori Grill, in the Table Mesa shopping center, has an outstanding lunch buffet. If you have a free afternoon, go gorge yourself on Saag Paneer and naan and then promptly pass out when you get home.

Just as when you buy a home, the process of selling a home can make you feel like there are many circumstances beyond your control. Boulder County Farmers Market is OPEN!

This means that spring is really here, right? No more freak snow. No more icy sidewalks unless your son just happened to have dropped a popsicle.

It’s official: the Boulder County Farmers Market is OPEN for 2014! And yeah, we missed the grand opening by a few weeks (we’ve been traveling, writing about BBQ…you know, important stuff). But if you missed it like we did, it’s time to grab those reusable shopping totes and head on down this Saturday to the Boulder County Farmers Market. There’s good gettin’ to be gotten and it’s just the beginning of the season.

If you’re new to Boulder, you can hit up the farmers market every Saturday from 8AM until 2PM. There’s also a sister farmers market in Longmont held on Saturdays from 8AM to 1PM. The Boulder location is on 13th Street between Arapahoe and Canyon, adjacent to Boulder’s Central Park. The Longmont market is held at the Boulder County Fairgrounds on Nelson Road. And if you’re wondering about the kinds of treasures you can expect to find at the market, you can see an entire list of this year’s vendors right on the farmers market website. They list everything from the vendor’s name to the vendor’s website if they have one. This way, you can do a little pre-sleuthing prior to your trip, plot your shopping trip, and see if your favorite vendors have returned for the 2014 season.

And parking can be a beast for farmers market days. We recommend walking and bikes, but you can also park in one of the many City of Boulder parking facilities. Just note that you will be paying the ful parking rate because lots aren’t free on Saturdays.
